R&B singer Mario is one of those singers where I wonder why he has not become an A-list talent. Today, I realized why. Check his new song “Backstage Pass.” From the production, lyrics and singing style, the tune is heavily influenced by singers/producers R. Kelly and The-Dream. I notice nothing about Mario that stands out in this ghetto slow jam. The lyrics are also lazy and childish. Even if this were to become a hit like his undeserving 2009 monster radio smash “Break Up” featuring Gucci Mane and Sean Garrett, potential fans would not buy into Mario because he has not stand out in his own recording since 2005′s “Let Me Love You.”
